National Happy Day!!

Rise and Shine... It's National, "I want you to be happy day"! Did you know this National holiday was created as a day encouraging us to do something to make others happy. Talk about stopping to smell the roses?!? Honestly, I LOVE it!! Smiles and positive affirmations can lead to a better attitude, a successful life, less stress, increased confidence and happiness.

A kind word, a smile, a small gesture such as holding a door open for someone can make a huge impact on someones day. I have to give props to my 10 year old son for something he did on Friday night that made my heart melt. So...after a full work week, the kids and I headed to Costco for a major grocery run. We needed everything...like...there wasn't ingredients to even "throw" together for a "fix it" kind of dinner. It's 8:30 at night, dark, cold AND...it's pouring down rain. The kids and I hustle to the car with a filled cart...AKA...can't see over the cart because even the napkins are sold in bulk. (And not complaining-truly feel blessed for that.) Meanwhile, every few seconds a box from the top or carts undercarriage would fall off into the street. Soooo..here's the moment that stopped me in my tracks. I'm putting the groceries from the cart into the back of the SUV and my son, Johnathan, gets out of the SUV, comes over to me and says, "Mom...you look so cold and you're completely soaked." I told him I'm okay but as I start to say the words, he opens up a large umbrella and holds it over my head as I am putting the groceries from the cart into the trunk. WOW. My first thoughts...."I freaking love this kid," as well as, "he's going to be an amazing husband one day." At that moment, the mascara that wasn't running down my face from the rain...is now running down my face as I cried happy tears.

Acts of kindness truly are quite limitless and anyone can participate no matter what their budget is. Saying "good morning" to a person standing next to you in the elevator, truly listening when someone is talking to you, encouraging someone in need, checking in on close friends and genuinely asking, "how are you really doing?" A handwritten note left for someone to find, a silly joke to put a smile on their face, a donation, pay it forward, a reminder to your kids of how much you love them...or simply, giving someone a hug. Putting a smile on someone’s face tends to put one on ours too and you can't put a price tag on that.

I hope you all enjoy today and have the opportunity to see how the "little things in life," truly are the most important.

xoxo,
